What is Farm to Neighborhood?
Farm to Neighborhood (F2N) is an Athens-Clarke county-based nonprofit organization focused on creating a community where everyone has access to delicious, nutritious, and affordable food choices. Under the direction of Rashe Malcolm, F2N has cultivated a network of local and minority farmers to further their mission of providing nutrition-based services to limited-income adults, families, and seniors. With donations and profits from the sale of Bags of Delish produce, F2N distributed over 5,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables to limited-income families in the last year alone.
Farm to Neighborhood and its 40+ community partners have established programs that include:
• Senior Fresh, providing weekly bags of fresh fruits and
vegetables to seniors who live in low-income areas with limited
access to fresh produce.
• HEALTHYouth, providing the next generation with eating habits
and culinary skills that will set them up for success and a healthy
lifestyle.
Did you know that according to the USDA nearly 47% of Athens residents live in a food desert? Farm to Neighborhood tackles this problem by distributing fresh fruits and vegetables to limited-income adults and families.
Our next initiative is to create a Mobile Grocery Store, bringing fresh foods to food desert neighborhoods. But we can’t do it alone.
F2N has raised funds for a full-service refrigerated trailer, and is now seeking support to purchase a 3500 Heavy Duty Pick Up Truck to pull the trailer and get the Mobile Grocery Store on the move throughout the neighborhoods of Athens!
